Jason is an experienced marketer and entrepreneur, and he has spent his career working in a variety of roles for startups, large technology firms, and non-profit organizations.
Jason grew up in Potomac, Maryland and has resided in New York City since 2002. He graduated summa cum laude from New York University with a degree in journalism and psychology. After college, he spent four years working in the marketing department at the Jewish National Fund (JNF), a large non-profit agency. As a Senior Marketing Manager, he spearheaded the organization’s digital efforts — implementing a comprehensive social media program, overseeing the organization’s online advertising program, and developing a metrics based approach for assessing marketing campaigns.
In 2008, while still working at JNF, Jason launched two websites: NYCDailyDeals and IDreamOfPizza. In just 18 months, he was able to turn a part-time hobby of blogging into two profitable ventures, and he left JNF in 2010 to focus his full-time efforts on the sites. Jason also founded The NYC Pizza Run in 2010, an annual charitable event that combines running with eating pizza. The event has sold out the last six years and has been featured in dozens of national media outlets including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. In 2013, Jason decided to grow the “food run” business with the NYC Cupcake Run which has also generated much fanfare.
While continuing to work on these ventures, Jason pursued an MBA at Columbia Business School and graduated in 2013. He spent his MBA summer internship at Google on the Product Marketing team for YouTube where he created a framework to track watch time across the competitive online video landscape. Following business school, Jason joined the team at Dailymotion — a leading online video platform — where he oversaw the company’s US marketing efforts. At Dailymotion he led high impact projects aimed at increasing brand awareness and user retention – including paid and organic traffic acquisition efforts, e-mail marketing, content management and event activations.
In the summer of 2015, Jason began working at Discovery Communications as the Director of Digital Marketing where he developed the go-to-market plans for the launch of Discovery GO — the company’s first “TV Everywhere” app. Post-launch, he’s been overseeing efforts to drive installs and engagement through a variety of marketing channels including e-mail, push, and social. He also manages organic and paid audience development efforts across the web properties for nine television networks — including Discovery, TLC, and Animal Planet.
Jason spends much of his free time eating and drinking his way across New York City’s five boroughs. He publishes an annual list of his favorite bars and restaurants, and he maintains an active presence on social media and in the blogosphere. He is captain of his summer softball team and has an affinity for ladder ball, shuffleboard, and Connect Four.
